Company description
The owners and developers, Brian & Donna, found this amazing piece of coastline years ago when they were surfing on the fringing reef back in 1996. Around the kava bowl with Vunaniu Village Elders, they mentioned it would be a great place for an eco resort. The natural forest to the white sandy beach line, the creek and the untouched beauty indicated that a responsible development philosophy was needed.
Matanivusi opened in 2007 and over the years has continued to develop it's sustainable initiatives culminating in becoming, in 2014, the world's first STOKE Certified 'sustainable" surf resort.
There are some great surf breaks on the reef fringing the turquoise waters of the lagoon which has partly become protected by a MPA marine protected area with the cooperation from the village.
Our sustainability has now shifted from the resort operations and environment to more cultural relationships and partnership with our local area residents.
Matanivusi has broadened it's offerings away from exclusively surfing to one showcasing all the natural attractions of this unique location.
